Final Glimpse

Script for a short film

By Michael Refalo

1.  INT. BATHROOM. DAY.

Sound over black of a baby crying.

A pool of blood running slowly towards a bathroom drain.

The baby’s cry fades into a white noise, as the edge of a blood covered knife resting on a blood stained night gown is revealed.

Shock filled left eye of a young woman is shown, a tear rolls down her cheek.

2. INT. HOUSE. DAY.

A mother, Annie, athletic build, places her 8 month old daughter, Claire, on the bed before continuing to pack her bags.

Annie collects her boarding pass and passport off of her dresser table, sighs and strokes the top of Claire’s head.

Annie picks up Claire, drags her bag off her bed and heads for the exit.

3. INT. TAXI. DAY.

A mobile phone screen showing a message from Annie’s husband, Samuel,

“Everything is organised. I’ll see you when you land.”

Annie snarks at the message as she locks her phone. She looks at Claire in the baby carriage next to her and subtly smiles.

4. INT. PLANE. NIGHT.

First class section of the plane.

An air hostess walks down the aisle, checking on the passengers.

Annie is asleep in her seat with Claire asleep on her chest.

Her phone lights up in her bag. Flashing Samuel.

5. INT. AIRPORT. DAY.

Samuel, finely dressed, is sitting nervously at the waiting bay, arms resting on his knees, holding his forehead and rubbing his temples.

He looks down at his watch. 9:15am.

Stressed, he rubs his brow and sighs.

An announcement sounds.

ANNOUNCEMENT

The 8:10 flight from New York will be
                arriving in five minutes.

Samuel stands up, rubs his head and starts wondering around the waiting bay.

The plane arrives and passengers make their way out of the corridor.

Samuel stands away from the crowd, eagerly watching the crowd of people as it gains in mass.

He notices Annie walking towards him, with Claire in a stroller. Annie does not look happy to see Samuel.

                           SAMUEL

                How was the flight?

Samuel goes to kiss Annie, but she hesitates a little before she leans in and kisses him back.

                           ANNIE

Yeah, it was all right.. She slept most of the way.

                           SAMUEL

I have a car waiting for us.

Samuel takes Annie’s carry bag off her. Annie walks off and Samuel follows.

3. INT. CAR. DAY.

Claire is in a baby carriage between Samuel and Annie in the rear of the car. The two of them are quiet, and Annie is avoiding Samuel by staring out the car window.

Samuel looks at Annie, his face looking worried.

Samuel reaches for Annie’s hand, which is resting on Claire’s carriage; she jolts and pulls her hand away.

Annie’s face is a mixture of heart ache and disgust.

4. INT. HOTEL ROOM.  DAY.

The door to the suite opens, Samuel stands aside as Annie walks into the furnished room, with Claire in the stroller.

Samuel follows with the luggage.

Annie takes Claire out of the stroller and places her on the mat in the lounge room - Annie starts to explore the hotel room.

Annie looks out the window at the city scape view.

                           ANNIE

(Sarcastically) You sure know how to

                win a girl’s heart, Sam.

Samuel walks over to her and places his hand on her shoulder.

                           SAMUEL

Just know - that you’re here with me.

                No-one else.

Annie brushes his hand off of her shoulder and walks into the kitchen.

Sound of the kettle being switched on and boiling.

Samuel’s facial expression drops.

                           SAMUEL

Look, babe, I have to go.

                           ANNIE

(Surprised) What..? we just got here.

Annie walks out of the kitchen, a firm expression on her face.

                           SAMUEL

You know how important my job is.

It’s only for a few hours.

Samuel looks at his watch.

                           SAMUEL

(Three or four at the most.

                           ANNIE

                (Frustrated, sighs).. fine –

but when you come back, we have to talk.

Annie looks at Claire who is tugging on the hem of Annie’s dress.

Annie picks up Claire.

Samuel gestures agreement, followed by a blank face.

5. INT.HOTEL ROOM. DAY.

Angry at Samuel, Annie takes her time unpacking her bags.

Her phone vibrates on the bench beside her. It’s a message from Samuel.

“I’m going to be longer then I thought. Love you.”

                           ANNIE
                (Shout) Bullshit!

Annie throws her phone across the room and it breaks as it hits the wall.

6. INT. HOTEL ROOM. EVENING.

Caressed by a soft light from the side-table lamp, Annie is sitting on the couch, reading a book, the television on a child program to entertain Claire, Claire next to her playing with a toy.

Everything in the room turns off. Blackout.

                           ANNIE

                That’d be right…

Annie gets up, stumbling around the unfamiliar room to find some candles. Whilst rummaging through a draw in the kitchen, a siren starts blaring, Claire starts crying and the television flickers back on with an emergency broadcast playing.

                           TELEVISION

This is not a drill. For your own safety

do not leave your rooms. Do not call the police.

The matter is being handled. (Repeat)

Annie hears gunfire and shouting coming from another part of the building. In a panicked state, Annie grabs a knife out of the draw and collects Claire from the lounge room, stumbling to the bathroom to find sanctuary.

7. INT. BATHROOM. NIGHT.

Knife in hand, Annie cradling Claire in the corner of the bathroom.

Claire has stopped crying, although the alarm as well as the shouting and gunfire still continue throughout the building.

                           ANNIE

                (Petrified mumbling and in tears)

Why you bastard! Why did you Bring me here…

A crashing noise comes from outside the bathroom door, followed by muffled shouting and more gunfire.

There is a thud on the bathroom door. Claire starts crying again.

Annie, shaking in fear, gets her weapon at the ready.

The door slams open to reveal a tall man wearing a suit and gas mask, wielding a hand-gun. He reaches for Annie, who charges at him with the knife to protect Claire.

Annie stabs him in the chest, as her fearful eyes meet his.

                           ANNIE
                (Shocked) FUCK! SAM!…

They both fall to their knees.

Dying, Sam pulls off his mask, and Annie stumbles backward in disbelief.

                           SAMUEL

                (choking) I.. I’m Sorry..

Samuel collapses, a pool of blood emerges from under Samuel’s corpse. Annie continues to stare at the body in disbelief.

Her eyes pale.

Claire still crying.

 8. INT. BATHROOM. NIGHT.

The alarm system has stopped and there is no shouting or gun-fire.

Annie’s sitting in a pool of blood with Claire on her lap.
A blood covered knife in her hand, her late husband’s corpse on the ground in front of her.

The gasmask is gone. There is no gun. Samuel is not wearing a suit, but in a shirt and jeans.

A lipstick stain is on his collar.

Annie’s eyes glazed, she smirks.

End.

THIS - is the final illustration for the article, “flying on water”.
I have to say I like this one a lot, because of it’s impact, but mainly cause it’s the first time I’ve drawn an action pose and liked it. :)

Here is the first Illustration for that article mentioned before. not very good, but i still like it :)

Okay, THIS is the illustrations I submitted for my magazine article last year at UNI.
I think I wrote the article about wake-skating, although I am sure I was drunk for a fair about of last year ( being UNI and all) so, i don’t know for sure.

regardless, this is the title page for said article.

(I would post the article up, but i think it is too shit for this place. and that is saying something.) o_0”

Lets start off with something I did for christmas last year.
My friend Claire each year has asked me to make a greeting card for her Killer friend.

now don’t get me wrong, I don’t like supporting the brutal murder which her friend has committed, but I am to believe that this person was only a devoted fan to a band called the killers, and her Killer friend is more like just a pen pal.

(or so Claire says)

Anywho -  This is one of those cards.
